These stones I picked out from all the Scot's Bay material I tumbled over the last year. They all have some internal fire. I have been told by a fellow who has operated a rock shop local to the area that they are fire opals that formed "volcanically" rather than the "sedimentary" opals from Australia and they are close to agate but have a high enough water content to be opal and thus have the fire. If anyone can confirm or deny this or has any info they would like to add, please do so. pic1 pic2 pic3 pic4 pic5 pic6 pic7 pic8 pic9 pic10 Thanks for looking!

I'd say those look more to be either Jelly or Contra Luz, rather than "fire".
Usually the term "fire" when used with opal means either a yellow-orange-red crystal opal, (the one lemon yellow piece might qualify) or else really intense and vibrant flashes of color in black or white opal.
More subtle colors like these are usually called Contra Luz, very nice material, like HRC said- whatever it is

WOW, don't know what they are, but they sure are pretty! Very subtle flash, I love white stones!

You did a fantastic job on those! I have no idea what to call them but they are beautiful! I love your little guy standing guard of them also! Did you carve that? Fran

Rallyrocks- your explanation make sense to me, the light needs to be from the other side to see the flash in most of these, some have a lot more than others. Frane- I didn't carve the little guy, it's an original bone carving part of a set of 3. It belongs to a friend and was just borrowed for the pictures. He got them as a gift years ago and doesn't know who carved them. They sure are nice though.
