Hello everyone, My name is Graciela. I am a Vet from Argentina, but I am currently living in England with my English husband. An absolute newby, I have taken up this hobby almost by chance: Very recently, after the unexpected death of my Mummy in Argentina, I was feeling very sad and depressed so my hubby took me for a walk on a beach nearby. There, almost without noticing, I picked up some small pebbles, which we took home... ...and here we are now. We've just bought our first Beach tumbling machine and it is running in the garage. Glad to have found this forum and to be amongst you, and looking forwards to learning as much as possible about this fascinating hobby. Graciela

Welcome aboard. Sorry about your mum. Mine passed away last year also. In her case it was a blessing and an end to a long period of suffering but it is still hard.

Hello and welcome Graciela!
My condolences about your mum. Wise decision on your husband's part to take you walking on the beach! It can be somewhat healing. I have been collecting beach rocks for years, but am new to tumbling. This board is the best. The people here are not only full of wisdom, but genuinely good-hearted too. So, once again, welcome!

Hi Graciela, So sorry about your Mum. I live in Cambrideshire but I collect pebbles from a beach just up the coast from you at Scratby,Norfolk, where we have just bought a caravan. I too am very new to this hobby and have just wire wrapped my first tumbled pebbles. I really love it as I have always loved the beach and now I have even more reason to go there to find more pebbles! See my photos on the Wire Wrapping thread of this website. Enjoy this fantastic hobby. Mary

Erica, I inherited my curiosity and love for rocks from my Dad. When he was young, he had found a beatiful and most unusual geode, which had a natural opening at one end. It resembled, in shape and size, a man's closed hand forming a fist. You could look into it, and see perfectly formed quartz cristals inside. Unfortunately, someone stole it many years ago. But I know if I ever see it again, I will recognise it immediately. That rock could "speak" to me when I was about 5 y.o. Many, many years later, I am tumbling pebbles for the first time. Mary, we are almost neighbours! We live in a rural area so we often go to Lowestoft, which is about 15 miles from Scratby, to do our shopping. One day, I would love to do my own wire wrapping. I only hope they are as good as yours. Bill, thank you very much for your kind words. I am already getting a lot of enjoyment fishing around the pebbles in the tumbler and having my hands all dirty with the slurry.

Welcome to the board Graciela! There are so many good people here who share this passion for the rocks we find. I am sorry about the loss of your Mom. It is always so difficult to loose a loved one and so vary painful. The beach walking and even tumbling can have a healing effect with the constant movement and flow. I look forward to your posts! Fran
