Here are some pics from last Sunday, Cathy and I went to the Museum of natural history at the Smithsonian. That one building alone is huge, and the many buildings of the Smithsonian take up a many of the city blocks. Anyhow, the specimens in the pics, most are quite large (basketball size and bigger). Some have labels, but most are self explanatory. Anyhow, enjoy the pics! ;D The first thing that we had to see of course, was the most famous gem in the world, the "Hope Diamond". Very cool!! .... Everything else, just a very small portion of what we saw! Note the topaz to the far left in the pic, it's larger than a basketball!! Deceiving pic, these are from the cave of crystal swords and are 4 feet long! Another very large display, this thing was about three feet across!! The are all solid gold nuggets, some weighing more than a pound!

Wow Randy! Thanks for the tour. I want to go to DC for one reason only and that's to see the Smithsonian.

Randy, the Smithsonian called. They want their basketbal-size Topaz back. LOL. These were excellent! Jo

Randy that was a wicked pleasure. Thanks for taking the pics and posting so many of them. it took so long to view them all and for a while lost myself in all those glorious crystals.

Wow those are some great pictures Randy. The last time I was there the exhibit was closed for renovations and it looks like they did a fantastic job. We will have to make that trip sometime soon. Thanks for the pics.

Enjoyed the pics immensely. Between those and all the desert pics from Amber and Tony I have had a great vicarious summer vacation. Thanks to all.
