This may sound a bit strange coming from me .... well ... not from me ...
Since I have been using the ceramic pellets and glass for filler and cushion ... the cyclonic effect is radically changed.
This batch so far.... has done nothing but rip! It is so cool!
However .... I have figured out one problem with the vibe that I am using ... the one that went bad ... it is extremely off balance.
I can look at it from the side and see two of the pads spinning independently of the tumbler.
Anchoring the bowl for this vibe is very specific. I have to tilt it ever so slightly for the all four pads to stop spinning. We'll see ...
But ........it is cranking!!!! I am so stoked!!!

I'm curious - what kind of vibe it this one, that's off balance? Tom

It is a Berry's Blue by Covington.
Being off balance is what I finally figured it out it was.
So now ... I am moving it around on the board to make sure that it is balanced and the pads are not spinning.
I just checked it and it is still moving pretty good.
I need any and all suggestions for future use.

Julie, that's the exact same vibe as mine. I have mine strapped down to the table of a small table saw, and it's been working well so far. No balance or "unhinging" issues at all. (All my issues have to do with the voids in my brain, I think!) I hope you get it all figured out for good, so you can get on with studying the rocks and the process, rather than debugging the machinery.

On behalf of Covington, they shipped her a free replacement when the first one quit. They didn't want the defective unit back.

Ah, I see. That's what I call great service and support. I know my Covington seems to be a terrific machine - although the bowl's construction lends itself to producing eyeball-rattling noise!
Thanks for the info, John.
Julie, you go, girl! If you have 2 of these running at once, I hope there's lots of insulation between where they are and where you try to watch tv or listen to the radio! ;D

As John said ... both John and Covington rose to the occasion so fast, it was amazing.
I discovered what I think to be the issue with the spinning rubber disc (1 of 4). They are actually seated on a hole the size/diameter of the disc. I think what is happening is the disc is going flat so to speak, getting thinner. I found that the one disc has stuffed itself/seated it self partially down into the hole. What this did was ever so slightly raise the opposite side of the bowl off of its rubber disc, hence the spinning. So I popped it out, turned it ever so slightly and placed it back on the motor. I have noticed that the disc is slightly thinner then the other four which leads me to believe that I should be able to buy replacements as they wear out.
Now for the vibe itself. I am not going to assume since I got it running that I will use it continually. I try very hard not to turn it on and off too much as I still have the stalling/hesitation as I am trying to get it started. This was the original issue; the motor.
The rubber disc issue I would think would be normal wear and tear because of the high velocity/speed of the vibration of a very heavy bowl running 24/7. The joys of owning any piece of equipment; its quirks.
I am trying to save up for another vibe, different one of course and will again buy from John. I have dealt with him, I have had great service from him, and that means I trust him. It would just be dumb for me not to go back to him.

I don't own this type of vibe but I would think it would need some of the basic set-up's that most do. It should be level in all directions and held down with bolts, screws, etc on a good solid bench, table, etc.
If your unit was not level for some time it could be the reason for that 1 disk to be wearing out that fast.
If your car were leaning to the right all the time the right side tires would wear out much faster then the left.
If the unit is designed well and installed correctly I see no reason why it can't be run 24/7/365.
EVERY piece of machinery has it's "weak spots" in it's design no matter how much engineering and thought went into its construction,,,, just look at the Space Shuttle!
As for the design on your plastic bowl and the noise it creates,,,,
I'd bet a dollar to a donut that if there was a unit like yours running right next to the desk of the engineer who designed it that noise problem would SOON be taken care of!
There is ALWAYS room for improvement on ALL mechanical equipment but that dreaded dollar keeps a lot of improvements out of the design so companies can stay competitive in a market where "cheap" seems to over ride quality.
WOW,,,,Did I ever get carried away here or what??? LOL
