G'day, all. I'm about 16 hours into my first tumble. The new 9# Thumler Tumbler grinding away atop a foam pad left by roofer is not much louder than a whisper. I got the tumbler as an experiment to see if I could make beach glass, and last night I broke up 5 wine bottles and filed the bin 5/8ths full and poured in 8 oz of course media and water. I'm curious what will happen as I run thru the 5 cycles and many weeks detailed in the instruction manual, and plan to record the progress with peeks every 24 hours. Anyone here have experience with making beach glass?

Yes, it's been done by a few people on this forum, I wish that I could remember who. Broken glass shapes and shines great! Hey, what part of Virginia?

I'm in Norfolk. After the first 24 hours all the sharp edges of the glass are gone, and flat areas of the glass are beginning to frost just a bit.

Welcome! There's a great glass tumbles from a few months ago in the tumbling pics section entitled "Harvey's Bristol Tumble". A must see.
Glad to have you aboard! You are not far from Randy!

That's right, you're only about 15 minutes from me. Hey, the "Animal Jungle" pet store on Holland sells chunks of slag glass, every color that you can imagine. Are you in the Navy?

I had a brief stint in the Navy (never again volunteer yourself) but couldn't handle the wool uniforms and all the damn buttons. Plus, it seemed unnatural being out on the water without a beer in my hand. Thanks for the tip on Animal Jungle. I used to hang out there several years ago when I was going broke trying to maintain a salt water aquarium.

Ahhh yes, the 13 buttons. What a stupid design that was. I had though about sewing the buttons to the front and velcro to the back. I'm retired now but doing construction.
