Hi all. Well, we learned something this weekend at the rock auction at Humboldt State College. If you want to see some nice specimens and entertainment, but don't have a lot of money to burn, then do attend an auction at a college. But don't go if you want to get some good deals on some rock. Most everyone in attendance was either alumni or currently attending the college, or was a professor , or had something to do with the college. They were there to support the college geology dept. and didn't hesitate to spend upwards of $175 for a mineral speciman that can be purchased at any rock shop for $20. A woman sitting in front of us spent over $600 on 3 items. Thankfully they had some tables set up in the hallway with all sorts of rock and minerals selling for good prices. We got there early and had a good selection. I even brought a chunk of Poppy Jasper up with me to donate to the cause. At the end of the auction, nobody had purchased it so I bought it. oh well, it is a good cause. Here's what we got at the tables. A piece of Spectrolite for $1.00 A slab of red obsidian$.50, a slab of Mariposite $1.00, 2 azurite pieces $.50 each, and a chunk of agate for $1.00 My wife bought some more fossils for our nephew but they got wrapped already. All in all, it was a lot of fun, but had I known the bidding would go so high, I think I would have camped out at the rock shop in Hopland! Ed

You got some good deals there. What is that white and green one in the second pic? I like that piece, it's really pretty.
