It’s been a few weeks since I have hounded a beach –AND- Hurricane Bill and Tropical Storm Danny have just stirred things up. Seemed like a good day to comb through the basalt rubble at McKay Head near Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. I had the wheelbarrow today, so I managed to get about 100 lbs of flow banded and porphyritic rhyolite, and “jaspagates”. The dykes that filled the cracks and fissures in the basalt contain a combination of jasper, agatized jasper, agate, and quartz. It’s difficult to discern where one stops and the other starts, so “jaspagates”. I also stumbled across a few zeolites that are common in the basalt vugs. Enjoy the photos. The slabs will follow in a week, or so. Darryl. Couldn’t Fill the Hula Hoop Jaspagates Jaspagates Jaspagates Jaspagates Jaspagates Zeolite Zeolite Close Up

Wow! Darryl, now that is a find. Some great colors and they are going to make some great cabs. Can't wait to see some of the slabs and cabs. Ken

Beautiful rocks - as you know. Wow! I'm always looking at cost per pound when buying rough. But sometimes you can get great stuff for however much gas it cost to drive there. Nice.

Nice Darryl! I am so jealous of those agates/jaspers you find in and around the basalt. And you found Zeolites too! I will send you some of the ones we have collected here.

What great finds...last time I was in Nova Scotia, I was not a rockhound. This gives me a good reason to return

Looks like another great haul. Hopefully the P.O. didn't loose the cabs we sent you and you will be able to see them polished up pretty.
