Hello All!!!
Stay at home mom of 3. They are 8,6,& 3.We have rocks everywhere!!!! Mostly spent the summer just pulling rocks out of the Chestatee river. No clue as to what they are. ;D
We went to Summerville GA on SAT & collected some beautiful lace agate from the quarry. Can't wait to get it started tumbling. We have one of those WONDERFUL(yeah right!!) CE double drum tumblers.(It was a gift!) The thing eats belts like candy!!!! We buy belts the way people buy tissue paper, IN BULK!!! LOL!!. Hoping to upgrade by Christmas.
Would love to learn of some closer spots to hunt. The 2 hour drive to Summerville about killed them.
later......April

Hi April. Welcome to the board. You are not too far from Franklin, NC. The rock shop downtown, Ruby City, has one of the best museums around and it is free. Also, there are many ruby and sapphire mines in the area. Masons Mountain would be good to take kids. They have salted buckets with gemstones from around the world. I normally wouldn't recommend salted mnes, but yours are very young and they get bored real quick at that age. Ken

April try a Thumler's Tumbler #400 belt (fits their model T). It will fit yours and last longer. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the tip about the Thumler's # 400 belt. Will try those after we use up the ones from ebay. We have 7 left , so we should be good for 7 more weeks.

Hi April- Your CE isn't a total loss. There are threads aplenty here about retrofitting CE chassis with Lortone parts. You can get new motors, pulleys, and lortone barrel parts and they will fit the CE. In the end, you'll have a pretty good machine. Check out MAGMA's board (dirtyrockhounds.com)- a sister board to this one with a similar format. It has lots of information about your area. A lot of the RTH members are on that board as well. Be sure to check out Graves Mountain, Trenton Ga. area trilobite digs, etc. There's also Diamond Hill, SC and maybe the Hogg mine near LaGrange. Happy Hounding!
