I unsealed a Lortone 33B barrel this morning. It's a smorg of agates and jaspers. Some I bartered for and some I picked up at the rail road tracks. Here's the pix and commentary Wide view: Moss?: Railroad track jaspers and quartz: I wish I knew what this is. I've got a tater size piece of it: Wood: Slice of jasper: This looks like agate. It is transclucent for a few millimeters. A nest of bots: The closer you look the more you see: A couple of plum size pieces of Owyhee: An agate or chalcedony nodule, about 4-5 lbs. I apologize for my ignorance of the pedigree of some of these rocks. I guess I'm like a crow that picks up whatever is shiny without knowing what it is. Enjoy the weekend!

Nice batch! The brown unknown with the swirls is stromatolite, agatized algae, probably from the Wamsutter, Wyoming area.....Mel

Thanks for the ID on the stromatolite. I picked that and that nodule in the last picture out of a friend of mines flower beds. The rocks were left behind by a previous tenant of his. Also the last two items aren't tumbled yet, as if you couldn't tell.

That is a fantastic batch to pull out! I love them all! Looks like your next tumble will be sweet too by the look of that rough! Fran

I also wish they threw nice stuff like that on our RR tracks. All I get is limestone - b!tch to polish.

These tracks are the last 2 mile stretch of gravel bedded side tracks I know of down here. I dread the day they re-bed this section with that boring mono-chromic material that passes for rock.
