I have a lortone 3lb drum. I have a pound of rock I want to tumble by itself. Can I use 2 lbs of ceramic to fill the drum? Do I adjust the amount of SiC for just the rock, or still put the same amount of grit that I would if I had three lbs of rocks?

I would use the same amount of grit if the volume is the same.

I'd use ceramic media by volume (rather than weight) to bring load to 3/4 full. then use same grit as always. A good rule of thumb normally is fill drum to 2/3 with rock and add ceramic to 3/4 full. That gives a nice mix of media to carry grit and speed process.

I agree with John and Toad, only I would use more than one size of ceramic, I think this speeds up the process a little and helps with an even grind. Karock
