Here's a picture of the sphere's I've made. Below the picture is a link to a site where individual pictures of each sphere are available. Some pictures are better than others - some out of focus and other issues. Included are pictures of the rainbow obsidian sphere I posted a couple of months ago - the sphere is now somewhat polished - still needs some work. Here's the link to individual pictures: home.comcast.net/~sscarbor/steves_spheres/spheres.htmlSteve

The spheres are all really cool Steve! This may sound blasphemous to some, but the slag glass is awesome! The labradorite is beautiful too. They're all awesome, but those 2 are my favorites!

Nice spheres. I like the one second row from the top, fourth from the left. I have some unfortunate news for you though, the one in the top row at the far right end Im sorry to say is not a sphere...LOL

Oh, you made some really pretty spheres. I love them all and that octagonal block is gorgeous. It looks like it could be a stand for a sphere but then that beautiful pattern on the top would be hidden.

The story of the octagonal block: I was cutting a preform to make a sphere, but my wife really liked the shape the way it was so I quit cutting and threw it in the tumbler. It is a partial sphere preform.

I used a Lortone 12 lb barrel. I first ran a bunch of small agates to the prepolish stage. Then I packed the preform in these agates and started at the 120/220 step. I had to run the polish stage twice since the preform siphoned itself onto the bottom of the barrel - so I turned it over and ran it again. A couple of the spheres were also polished this way.
The flat bottomed picture jasper "sphere" was finished in a tumbler - that's when I lost the bottom of the sphere. I knew it had a soft area, didn't realize just how soft or large it was. I had to use a tumbler on this piece since a chunk fell out when I was grinding the sphere. Steve
