I've seen spheres of it, so I'd say it can be polished. But I wouldn't know how, sorry.

Funny you should ask that as I just picked up a piece last week while I was on vacation. My wife and I went on a cave tour (that's our absolute fav thing to do in So. Mo.) and the tour guide came to some calcite that had just fallen from above. He said we could all have a piece if we wanted. Of course I took a nice size piece, if for nothing else to use it in my Moh's kit. I wouldn't mind maybe hand polishing it if that's possible.

It can be cabbed.....Ive cabbed it. You just have to be careful, one second too long on the wheel and it will be gone LOL. Doesnt necessarily take that great of a shine though. More of a matte finish.

Yeah. calcite materials can be cabbed but as Shannon has said, start with the fine grind wheels, use light pressure, and keep the stone in motion to avoid flat spots. Most will take a fine polish with optical grade tin or cerium like you'd use in lens polishing....Mel
