Hi!
My neighbors - who have noticed my preoccupation with rocks - found this while at Lake Cumberland. They thought it might be a geode and picked it up to bring home to me. They couldn't stand not knowing what was in it though and had to bash it open before they left to come home. I like to think I've had that effect on them - before they wouldn't have wondered what was in it! They were disappointed when it didn't turn out to be a geode but brought it to me anyway. When I first saw it I thought it was some sort of pet wood - mostly due to the rind on it - but I'm not sure that it's not just a chert nodule or something.
I apologize for the photo quality - I've got plans to build a light box but any time I get a few minutes of free time I don't want to spend time building a light box - would rather play with rocks! Hope I can get it on the Workforce this week some time and get some mini-slabs cut.
Can anyone tell by these photos what this is? It's a little larger than my fist.
Rind on larger piece -
Outer rind on one of the pieces -
Inside -
Closer shot of the right hand side -
On this one you can see what looks like was a small druzy pocket -
I was going to try a different lighting to see if I could get better photos but just these photos took three sets of (dying!) batteries and I figured I was pushing it with the last set. Now that I've found camera, card, and the rechargeable batteries - I'm gonna have to track down the charger! I'm glad technology has simplified my life... ;D
