Finally finished my "preforms in the vibe" experiment, and I'm quite pleased with the results. Given, some of them would have been "thrown back" by most of the folks who've been doing this for a while, but for me, I like them, even with the pits, warts, etc. I'm just happy to get a shine on something, FINALLY! OK, here's what was in the vibe: Preforms, some "accidents" that are leftovers from cutting preforms, some of the old beach rocks that I could not get to shine, and a ton of ceramics: Surprisingly, some of the beach rocks decided to give a little shine, while others still refuse: Foreground, the cabs, background, the "accidents" Now the fun: IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE STONE IS, PLEASE TELL ME! These all from the same slab - some kind of jasper: I have no clue but I like it, pits, cracks, and all: Couple of snowflake obsidians: Couple of Montana agates: Some real skinny little laces: Another I don't know - very creamy looking: I think these may be the same kind of stone - don't remember if they were off the same slab. Might they be something like St. John's Flower agate? Dunno. Picture jasper - stuff refuses to get past the "satin" finish. A little piece of banded onyx Don't know - amy? quartz? they are both chatoyant, and backlit show everything from rootbeer color to lavender - I love them. Little kambaba (I know, it looks kinda like O.J. - but isn't that what kambaba really is?) 3 pet palms from the same little slab Don't know - hard as nails, very pitty, sorta resembles bacon. Okay, that's all of them. Thanks for looking. Again, if you can name one or more of them, please do - and correct me if I'm wrong on my guesses, PLEASE! Tom

Hi, Marie - yep, they almost all took that glowy-shiny look. I just can't capture it at night in the dining room - I always seem to be taking my pictures at night for some reason! Gotta find a schedule that allows me to do it in the daylight. LOL!

Oh, yeah - I just remembered something else I've learned (or actually, already knew but it just dawned on me ) from this exercise - if you want DOMED cabs, don't try to get them via the vibe route. I can't see a reliable way to do that, although ONE of these does have a bit of a dome, the littlest "chatoyant-see-through-rootbeer/lavender-thing-that-I-wish-I-knew-the-name-of-because-I-love-it" cab in the 13th picture. Somebody please give me a name for that stone? Please? Tom

Tom, it looks like a great batch! Even the beach rocks look good! I wish I could remember what you have there but it slips my mind right now. I will have to think about it and come back to this post when I remember... Fran

Wow, congrats Tom! Well worth the time and effort getting your tumble skills on! Pic 4 resembles HPD's Batcave. Pic 6 looks more like Puddingstone. The one on the left in Pic 13 looks Tiger-Eye-ish (those are so pretty and cool looking!). Love the Kambaba eyeball! Great job Tom!

Jack, thanks for your comments! I agree on the Montana - it's one of my favorites. What I'm calling snowflake obsidian, was what the vendor I bought it from called it, and it works just like obsidian, and it looks like other snowflake I have .... it's jet black with little white spots all over. Also, I didn't mean you can't polish domed stones in the vibe - just that they have to be domed before you put them in the vibe, the vibe won't dome them for you.
Jo, thanks for the names - on the bat cave - is that stuff hard as iron and difficult to get a glossy shine on? Cause the stuff I have pictured is just that - hard as nails, shines good but not glossy. Also - is tiger eye ever close to transparent? These stones are - with brilliant gold, rootbeer, and lavender hues internally. Also, is puddingstone jet black with white spots?
Thanks for the info, guys - I am still trying to learn - even though at my age, stuff just doesn't sink in as easily as it used to!

Hi Tom Hi Junior !!!!!! Good your still open to learning keep at it !!
I think your vendor could be wrong , Jo says pudingstone which is what I thought it was, more off a conglomarate than a volcanic glass
If you chip a bit of the corner does it look shiney like Glass?
Jack , Yorkshire UK CABS I rough off the cab shape first before putting into the Vibe Try that , It gets all the scratches and flat spots off and comes out a good shape
