I picked up a really nice piece of Labradorite from the Ohskosh Earth Science show today. I purchased it from "The Gem Shop" which has a store in Cedarburg, WI. Here's a few pix of the rough I hee-hawed around when I got home on how to (or more like"IF" I should) cut it, and eventually just couldn't resist! Here's a small piece I cut off and face polished. I don't have the angle cut quite right, but it still flashes, so I'm darn happy for that! I was scared I'd cut it and it would disappear. I can't wait to cut another slab and make some cabs from it! Here's a pic of the piece I polished And here's a video of it Thanks for looking, Nate

Wow. That's a pretty rock. Be sure and show us pics of the cab or cabs you make from it - they're gonna be eye-poppers, for sure!

I've wanted some lab for the longest time, but was afraid to buy it sight unseen. The shop that was selling this at the show only had 4 or 5 pieces in their bin, and they were all about this size. I really didn't want this much, but that's what they had so I jumped on it. All the other pieces there only had green flash from what I saw. I will hopefully get another slab or 2 cut off this week and get a cab done.

Thanks Nona! No grammas anymore, but certainly many more women in the family. I've cut a few more chunks off this beauty and tried to get the flash orietated. It's really hard to do, because it depends on the light source. I just hope I don't hack it all up to a pile of junk before I get it figured out. I guess if I do I will just have to buy more!

I just got quite of few pieces of lab from a buddy in Ga. his town is known for the granite quarries and the counter tops that are produced there and they make counter tops out of lab also. . I will be working some of that also soon. Curious as to how it will cab

jcinpc, if it's anything like the lab I got, it cuts like butter. I can't believe how easily the saw goes through it. I'd have to say oak or similar hardwood cuts slower than this stuff! But it does take a great polish, & that's all that matters to me.

Mike, I hope you find some of that local lab. There's some supposedly near Wausau in wisconsin too. I saw a face polished piece this spring at a show, but all the info I found seems to be saying the source is off limits... jcinpc, that's an awesome cab! Thanks for showing it. Here's a shot of the ear rings I made my daughters. Tiger eye and lab. I'm going to try to get a better photo of them now that I figured out my camera. Nate
