Hello, everyone! I was missing these days, but for a very good reason: my cousin, living in Munchen - Germany, invited me to spend a few days at Oktoberfest. Of course I couldn't miss this! ;D The plane tickets to Munchen are really expensive and hard to find during this event, and besides that, you know by now how much I "love" to fly So, we hit the road and arrived there in two days (well, one and a half in fact). On the way, passing through Austria, we visited a monastery, in Melk town. Here are some pics from that place: And now, back to the main subject: Oktoberfest. Well, I cannot remember much of it, this was the main view I had during our stay there: ;D Just kidding! Here are some machines which I didn't try, they make me dizzy only looking at them: Ioana tried this last one though. It was enough for her On Sunday we managed to find some places at a table in a tent. This is not a simple task, although there are about a dozen tents and each of them can host some 10,000 people! Well, with so many people drinking beer in the same time, the toilets MUST be efficient! And they really are, they can host some 70...80 men in the same time. I even dared to take a photo It's weird to sit face to face with another guy, even if his main concern is the same as yours We ate, drank and had a blast, the atmosphere was really unique! It seems this baby was already hooked ;D Prosit! (Cheers!) ;D Thanks for drinking looking, Adrian

Looks like you had a great time, Adrian! We were in Germany in the early 80s, and Oktoberfest, while around, was nothing like it is now it seems. Granted, I don't think we went to Munich during the actual festival!

Adrian: Thank you so much for bringing back fond memories. The beerhall tents look the same as they did in 1968, as does the view through the stein bottom! We were at a table of university students playing the game of passing the stein where the person drinking the last of beer bought the next one. Of course, I can remember the whole three days, especially the very long conversation with the policeman with his very limited English, and my like so German. Woody

Wir haben ein Bier Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarty!!! ;D That Monastery is a beautiful site. The architecture is really awesome. I think you got caught taking that picture in the bathroom. That guy in the glasses is thinking...'Was das F*&*'! ;D The little baby is a funny picture too. Maybe the Mom is sloshed and doesn't realize the babies going in for a swim. Those steins are big enough for him/her. In America you'd probably get your child taken away from you if you got caught with something like that. Looks like a Fun Time you guys had. Steve

My ex husband was stationed in Munich when he was in the Army back in 1967. He loved the beer gardens. He said those ladies could carry three of those beer steins in each hand. He bought some of the steins back home. He had so much fun with his beer drinking buddies, he jumped off the top tier of one the riverboats. He didnt get arrested but he got sternly talked too. He told me that people drive over 125 miles or as fast as they can on the Autobahn and he said there really are cuckoo birds in the forest:) Thanks Adrian these were lovely pictures to see and lots of fun to hear of your adventures:)

Yes Moondragon, no speed limit on the highway is still the basic rule but it's more and more scarcely seen. There are speeds limits imposed by the traffic sensors, which count the cars that passed and if there are too many they set the speed limit to 120, 100 or even 80 km/h (that means about 75, 63 or 50 mph) to avoid traffic jams. Ja Ja Steve, the beer party was wunderbahr! No, the mom was perfectly aware what the kid was trying to do And the toilet picture - it should had been more funny, one guy brought his beer stein there and placed it on the "fence", it looked like he was stuck there in an endless fill/empty cycle But apparently he managed to break this cycle ;D Mary Ann, what's "brats"? Woody, if you had to talk to the policemen there, you did something naughty didn't you? Adrian

Wow it looks like you had a great time. I've been to France but never been to Germany, the castles are very different there. Nothing like drinking gallons of beer then going on an amusement ride that spins at the speed of light. I imagine there is quite a bit of puking at the exit of those things. lol

Adrain: I took German from 7th grade all through college, I used to be nearly fluent, but never had much occasion to use it! I am PA Dutch, an offshoot of the German settlers in the area, and the PA Dutch spoken here is a mixture of German, English and some more bad English thrown in! LOL I forget so much from not using it!!!! I want to get to Germany someday!!!! Yes the Germans can put a lot of letters into one word, LOL!!!! And I do know what schwartzwalderschweinschinken is! LOL Miss ya!!! Amber

Adrian,
I can't believe that I didn't comment here! I thought I had but I must have been laughing too hard each time to do so! (That pic of the baby cracks me up!) I just love the 4th picture with all the arches! Locations like that are just beautiful! Looks like you had a wonderful time there and one of those beers would have put me under the table! Fran

I love that last one of you holding the two beers! That looks like a lot of fun. I've always wanted to experience Octoberfest firsthand. We have a German restaurant here we go to every year and all share a giant 2L glass of beer Steve

Had to google schwartzwalderschweinschinken; if I got 'er done right, I think it's Black Forest Ham? If Adrian and family had stayed one more day here in Imperial, they would know what homemade brats are, LOL. Thanks for the pix, A and I! Only one ride for Ioana! Wow, she must have been drinking some beer, LOL. It's OK, she's legal there.
