I would like to take a moment to say everyone's work in this competition is outstanding. It surely pushes a person to do their best! Thank you Dan for sponsoring this wonderful contest. Here's my entry - Novice category : It looks like there's a skull or evil face in this cab. I got the slab from Amber. Thank you Amber, I knew this was the piece for the competition the moment I picked it up! Now a little background to "The Ghost of Burro Creek"! Beware, reader, for this is a spooky tale about a man who didn't like society. He never went to town, and many people believed he was cannibalistic, eating his victims alive! One evening, by the light of the harvest moon, two reporters from the local town wanted to earn their fortune by getting this man to come to town for an interview. When they neared his cottage, they heard a shrill scream... Something, or someone, was being eaten alive! The reporters took out their cameras and were about to take a picture when they felt a hand on their shoulders. They turned around and just as they were snapping the picture, there was the ghost of the old man they were searching for! The old man had drowned in Burro Creek, and was haunting the area looking for victims! As the picture snapped, the men ran away screaming for mercy! They discovered the photograph they had taken the next day. The sound of his scream as he haunts the creek still resides in their dreams to this day... This story was written by my daughter Abby. Thank you Abby for your help! Nate

LOL, nice story. But isn't that pic a little lush for Burro Creek? I think that picture was taken long ago, since then even the trees perished because of that spooky ghost Adrian

This competition is great, so many outstanding cabs. I decided to go ahead and enter this Tahoma Cab. I already posted a picture of it in the Cabachon thread, but after looking at it again I noticed this great big "BLOOD MOON" shining over the road that the "Headless Horseman" must have ridden. www.gametrails.com/images/Blood Moon.jpg[/img] www.gametrails.com/images/Tahoma Side.jpg[/img] It is a very low dome cab, which I have always had trouble getting to look good. Intro: Jo is deep in thought mulling over what the heck she is going to enter in the Halloween cab competition. She sits down on the couch, picks up remote, and turns on the TV. Mike Rowe's voice: On this episode of Ghosthunters, Jay and Grant investigate the prestigious RTH Forum where they encounter the mysterious dark shadow man, and discover that shadows really can throw rocks... And here is the video evidence of the RTH Shadow Man hoisting his rock. This is an Inkblot Jasper from Ralph and Mary Ann. Happy Halloween everybody!

Thanks! Won two slabs in a contest hosted by Ralph and Mary Ann last winter for naming it. (actually, I tied with MJ and he asked that I be given his prize too) Not my best photography, using a borrowed camera (while mine is in repair) that doesn't do closeups, but, I wanted to contribute and participate.

Hi All! Here’s my entry for the contest. It will have to be entered in the “advanced” category, even though it is presented mostly for the younger set’s enjoyment. I like the story idea, so I thought I would try the same. Here goes: The Story of Jack (A children’s story) Once upon a time, many centuries ago, in a small village there lived a very rude lad by the name of Jack. He lived so long ago that they didn’t even have last names then. Jack had a real problem dealing with others. He always said what he wanted even though it might be thoughtless or even evil. This behavior went on for a number of years until Jack had insulted just about everybody in the village. His parents warned him that he shouldn’t act that way, but Jack paid no attention to them. One day, Jack said the wrong thing to the wrong person. He insulted the Witch of Halloween who lived in a little hut just outside of the village. She was so infuriated that she turned jack into a pumpkin, carved a face in it, and then set a candle inside of the pumpkin’s head. Of course the carving didn’t resemble Jack at all. The old witch carved a silly looking smile on Jack’s face because it was so unlike his original personality, but more pleasing for her to look at. She then picked up Jack (the carved pumpkin), and placed him inside a magic glass box. Jack continued his foul-mouthed tirade for weeks. One day he was quiet enough to listen to the old witch. She said, “You must stay inside this box until you change your ways”. Jack just screamed more obscenities at her. Eventually, the old witch took the box with Jack inside it into town and gave it to some of the village people as a curio. It just so happened that these people owned a small restaurant and they would leave Jack and the magic box outside on top of their building. When people would walk by, Jack would be just strong enough to bounce through the lid of the box and demand that the people let him out. The box’s powerful magic was too strong to allow him to stay up, so every time he bounced up through the lid he would be pulled back inside. Eventually, he became known as “Jack-In-The-Box”. So many people came to see Jack inside that magic box that the restaurant owners made great profits and after a time, were able to open many more restaurants, some of which still exist today. Jack-In-The-Box: One day, a very foreign thought came to Jack. He wondered what would happen if he used the word “Please” when asking to be let out. It was a stormy night on the last day of the month of October. A different kind of ghost happened to be floating by that night and Jack asked him politely if he could get out of the box. The ghost stopped and pondered the question for awhile. This ghost was not scary like so many of the others. Then, he said to Jack, “If you promise to be polite and use your candle to help light the way on this day each year, I will let you out. Also, if you mind your manners, you will be turned back into a boy after October 31st, but every year hereafter you will be turned back into a 'Jack-O-Lantern' on the eve of that day for only that day." Jack immediately agreed, so the ghost let him out of the magic box. Jack was so happy that he wanted to know what the ghost’s name was, so the ghost told him it was Casper. Now every Halloween, you can see Jack, now known as “Jack-O-Lantern”, lighting the way along an otherwise dark path, and sometimes you can even see Casper peering around the corner. Jack-O-Lantern: Jack-O-Lantern cabochon with incandescent lighting: Happy Halloween! Garry
