I need some help with gluing bell caps. I’m somewhere between frustrated and discouraged. Here’s what I have set up:
(1) Combination of performs and tumbles (very slippery) (2) G-S Hypo Cement (with needle applicator and won’t glue fingers) (3) Styrofoam block to hold perform and tumbles securely in place (4) I prefit (bend) the bell cap to conform to the perform or tumble (5) I attempt to glue each prong of the bell cap and fill the dimple
So far, so good? Here’s where it gets ugly! After placing the bell cap on the stone and holding for a few seconds, I go to remove my fingers and usually the bell cap slips, or comes off the perform/tumble completely.
Is there a trick to this? Should I be using tweezers to place the bell cap? Do I need to have my fingers surgically altered to accomplish this? Are bell caps a royal pain for everyone?
Please enlighten me, and as always … thanks!
Darryl.

I tried that glue too, and could not get it to work for me. I went to the hardware store and bought "goop". There are several different types of this glue, but the one that says it's for marble worked on the polished rocks best. Also, it's really thick, so once you get the glue on there it's easier to place the bell cap on and it will sit there. Most of the time I don't even have to hold it once in place, it stays. It won't glue your fingers together either, and you can wipe any excess off without damaging the appearrance of the stone. I put the glue on with a toothpick, stuck the bell cap on it, and formed cap to rock, then wiped off any excess oozing out, laid it on the counter, and went on to the next one. The cooler the room temperature the shorter cure time, but I always let them sit there over night, once the glue sets, trust me, if you have the glue up under the cap good enough, it's not ever coming off!! Hope this helps! Goop is some awesome glue for tumbled stones!! Marie

the GS hypo cement is worthless....it's bond is weak and it takes forever to set up. I've used cyanoacrelate gel with ok results, but it too will fail eventually.

It looks like a change of glue and some tweezers will get me back on track. Off to the hardware store. Thanks Marie, Mike and Randy!

Hi Can I add what my wife does
She uses Gluetack and sticks the stones on to them (but first you have to rub the Gloss of the stone with SC stick so the glue gets a bite)
Then put a drop of glue ( Epoxy, Araldite )on the rock then puts the bell cap on (this balances on the glue/ rock as the rock is held with the "Gluetack" virticaly)
You can get fast setting Epoxy which helps.
It is quite easy to do
I can place a photo here if you want ?

PS Bikerandy uses foam rubber , the secret is ------- you got to get the object stood virticle on its own

Thanks to our UK members for recommending to roughen the rock. It should have been obvious to me, but it also seemed counter productive given all the time achieving the perfect polish in the first place.
Thanks Jack and Andrew.
