Holy Crap - my sister and her husband live just outside of Naches, apparently not too far from the slide. I had not heard of this till you posted the link. I just emailed her at work to ask her situation...if she got to work, maybe she will answer me! Barb
**UPDATE** The slide is 15 miles from my sister, but a family friend is one of those who had to evacuate. Do not know yet whether her house survived, but at least she is safe.
Thanks for the news! Barb

It didn't say anything about anyone getting hurt - not that property damage isn't bad enough. Hope your family didn't get any boulders in their house.

Yep, just heard from my sister in law. Their ranch is about five miles above the slide and they're cut off from town. Fortunately the river was low and it quickly cut a new path or else everyone above the slide would have had flooding problems too....Mel

The news here in WA says the slide moved about 80 acres of land. Both my wife, and I being rockhounds, and knowing what is fairly close by would sure like to have a peek in the river soon after it gives all that rock a bath. The Naches T eggs are on the other side of the road a couple of miles up hlll............the geologists are puzzled by the cause of this occurrance...maybe all that rock just rolled down on a new T egg find LOL. It was nice to hear that no one was physically hurt, but several people have lost homes that were not covered by a land movement insurrance clause. Woody

The only land movement that would happen on the prairies is if a mineshaft caves in.
