I bought 2 lbs of small Apache Tears ranging in size from 3/8" to 3/4" and am anxious to run them.
I have an A-R2 rotary and a UV-10 vibratory, lots of SC and AO, and ceramic media.
It looks like these may be able to skip the A-R2 and go straight to the UV-10.
Do I need a higher-end polish, or will AO work? Are there any other tips and tricks required?
Thanks for your recommendations.
Darryl.

Test whatever procedure you decide to try on junk obsidian before you go to work on your Apache tears. Obsidian is not very forgiving and everyone has their own trial and error tested techniques.

I haven't done it myself, but what I remember reading from others - some like lots of plastic pellets. If you need to do a rough grind - check much sooner than you would any other material.

Darryl, Apache Tears aren't as difficult to tumble as it may seem.
I would suggest running a normal rough load in a rotary if even for just a few days to see if you can get the flaws out.
I don't think you will get that rounded look if you use only your vibe.
"Tears" look best (to me) if they look like over sized black jelly beans with NO FLAWS.
The flaws detract from the beauty of them and look like a broken window.
I think 2lbs of them will get VERY lonely in a 10 lb vibe so why don't you buy other types of obsidian to make a full load? Obsidian is quite inexpensive and polishes up VERY well.
When you break up the rough you can save the scraps for cushioning purposes as well!
