I emptied out my UV-18 yesterday and am pleased with the results. A few cabs, slabs, and stuff that was shaped in the rotaries. The whole batch: The cabs: Tray 1: Rocky Butte Jasper Slab: Tray 2: Picture Jasper (not sure what kind): Another Rocky Butte Jasper: Tray 3: More Rocky Butte Jasper and Brecciated Jasper: My fav Rocky Butte slab: Breciated Jasper:

Great looking batch! Those rocky buttes are real nice and that brecciated jasper is beautiful. Nice cremes in between the jasper parts. Great shine on em too! Steve

Great looking work. The tiger eye in picture 3 looks like it took a smooth uniform shine. Some good looking Jaspers. How many pounds does a UV-18 hold?

Thanks all!
A UV-18 holds 18 lbs of rock so the say. I never weigh it. I just filler 'er up.
That brecciated jasper was a real find a couple years ago. There were two large chunks at my local rock shop. I bought one and as soon as I started slabbing it up and saw how nice it was I went back a bought the other. It was from an old collection they had bought.
The Rocky Butte Jasper is from the September Denver show. Every slab from the one rock cut with the brown border so I polished them up as specimens.
Tiger eye is one of my favorites to polish in the tumbler. There are two types there. Regular golden tiger eye and tiger eye with hematite bands.

Jack,
I cut way more cabs and polished slabs then I can make jewelry out of. I sell to stones to fellow metalsmiths, beaders, and wire wrappers. It's my way of diversifying. If the jewelry isn't selling the rocks do. It makes a wide variety of shows we can do. We do art shows, art and craft shows, jewelry shows, and gem and mineral shows. We're starting to branch out into home jewelry shows. In this economy you have to be versatile...

Mr Rockdewd: The picture jasper looks like the rock that is found in south Georgia. It is called "Georgia Queen Picture Jashper". I have collected there and slabbed some chunks and looks very similar. . . Just taking a shot !! I like the Breciated Jasper !! Very Nice Still Digging in the Georgia Dirt (or Mud), Frank (GaRock)
