Wow this is an outstanding forum I cann't believe there are so many people out there like me that love rocks I have only been able to collect here in east Texas, but have tons of pet wood, jasper and just river and creek rocks. Hope to correct that soon.
I have been reading your forum for a few weeks and just thought I would just jump right in and join. But I do have to ask if anyone is familiar with Rock's of Texas brand equipment. I am going to look at some equipment this week and that is the brand he told me the saw and grinder is. Any clue.
Thank you so much, I am a rockaholic

Ty you snuffy, I was in your neck of the woods saturday. I am about 54 miles due east from you. Nice to meet you. Are you a member of a rock hound club?

I dont belong to any club.Maybe A&M has one,but I've never checked. I do my hounding through this site and get my finds in frb's. ;D. As for your equipment question, I've not heard of that brand and could find no info on it.'Good luck and happy hunting.

Ty everyone. Apparentley this is an older company that sold out to Maxant , which all I can find on it is beekeeping equipment.
I guess my next thought process is if the equipment is in good shape and the motor happens to go out I could just find a replacement. Would that be correct?
Thank you, morerockspleaz

Welcome from another East Texan!
Texas Rocks brand was a good brand of equiment. I've had 2 of their saws and am pleased with them. If something goes out on it though, you have to scrounge around for parts. The one I have now needs a new shaft and I'm going to have to get someone to build it for me. The motor is no problem. Almost any 3/4-1 HP motor will work.

Welcome to the forum. I've heard a lot about the Texas Rocks brand when in Texas. I heard last year someone bought the rights and was going to start making them again but have not heard more. Any used saw needs a good check out of arbor bearings/shaft/vise carriage. Any out of production unit can be difficult finding parts for (as Curt said). I talked to a guy here in Austin that plans to make Highland Park saws in China. That will be interesting to watch. By the way, Dallas show is next month. Hope to meet some of "y'all" there.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I did pick up the saw, its in really good shape auto feed, also along with it I picked-up a commercial tumbler, [at least that is how it was presented], will tumble at least 6-8 barrels at a time depending on the size, it had 4 1/2 gal, 4 qt and 4 pint size. Also trim saw, wet polisher, grinder, flat lap vib. Two huge file cabinets full of supplies and hundreds of pounds of rock, 2 crates already slabbed. Turns out he bought it from an estate sale and just never used it. Everything does work.
It is older equipment and my plans are to go through and replace all the power cords and inspect everything. Hope to be up and running next week. I am sure I wil have alot of questions, like how to use the flat lap vib.
Will post some pictures of the awesome slabs soon, but tomorrow I am heading out on a dig.
Thanks, morerockspleaz
