Any ideas?
I don't know if my silicon carbide grit will work.
It has been suggested that I use Boron Carbide or Diamond
Does anyone know of a supplier?

Silicon carbide worked fine for me. I got some nice smooth and shiny ruby's with it. Just ran them with whatever other rocks I was tumbling at the time. They took longer to come out of coarse grind - of course - but I was very happy with the results.

Did you use aluminum oxide prepolish and polish?

Here is my method:
Rotary - SiC 60/90 until all imperfections are removed Vibe - SiC 220, 600, 1000 (pre-polish) for a week or two each Vibe - to be honest, I can't remember what polish I used. Might even have been a combination. But it was a 'traditional' rock polish - likely tin oxide and/or cerium oxide
