It seems every time I ask someone to help identify a rock, they tell me it is a jasper or agate. This may be true but with so many different kinds of jaspers and agates it is hard to keep up. Does anyone know of a book or maybe a poster with a picture and identification that I can buy to help me for quick reference? Thanks. Ray

Ray, YEP! Our own RTH member published a book recently called Agates and Jaspers. It is an excellent pictorial referance book with lots and lots of colored pics.239 pages of Beautiful Stuff....and a very nice referance in helping identify Jaspers and Agates. He has a website to order the book....I'll search for the link and post it here for you. I highly recommend the book....not only for a referance but for something to drool through. One of the problems when it comes to ID'ing agates and jaspers is the fact that there are so many virtually identical materials that have different names simply due to localities, or materials that may have more than one name. It makes it tricky sometimes....

This is a cool website for just jaspers: www.worldofjaspers.com/index.htmlI liked the 9-minute video there, but mostly enjoyed the photographs from the designated sites listed on the left-hand side of the website. It is very informative and just plain fun to look at. Garry

I saw the book recently and it is absolutely gorgeous--almost entirely large photos. The example pages aren't just the best ones from the book, the entire book is like that (except for some pages that are just photos). Very high quality photos.
