I have read several threads where it says to put cascade in the after polish wash with borax.
Do I use cascade with the borax?
If so do I use gel or powder? It would seem like powder would scratch since its kinda course. Do I use it at all and how much?

I try to stay away from harsher detergents- maybe a little ivory soap, but I worry that other stuff could attack the rubber.
Borax by itself is a pretty effective cleaner when it comes to tumbling rocks.

I used cascade for years with no problems but read lately that it's bad for rubber barrels so I switched to Dreft. I stopped using Borax because it's hard to find a place to dump it because of it's extreme toxicity to plants. It'll kill them dead right quick!..Mel

When you say Borax, you mean 20 Mule Team Borax?

20 Mule Team is the one. I use powdered Tide laundry detergent.

Yeah the 20 mule team is the one I use. I just read that some people use cascade with better results, but I am just gonna use the borax and see where that leaves me.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go out and buy some Dreft since my daughter doesn't need it any more for my grandson's clothes and I can't steal a cup every now and then...

I use about an eighth of a teaspoon of Cascade (dish washing soap won't foam) in every load, only to reduce the surface tension. To clean/burnish, I use maybe a quarter teaspoon of Cascade and 3 tablespoons of borax. I do that every time I switch from one type of grit or polish to another, and at the finish. I haven't seen any problems with the barrels, and the stones look incredibly better after a wash.
