Well last year when I started cabbing, I spent $20 on a Honduran opal from Maryann, I have been staring at that opal for some time, and finally decided I was going to cab it! It has some nice color, but man what a bugger to work!!! Soft spots, and hard to photograph the color! I love it though and am anxious to wear it! Dan and Dr. Jo helped me with ideas for polishing, I think it actually looked better coming off the 14,000 Nova, it got so hot polishing it with diamond paste, I dropped in, and almost broke it, LOL DRY Under water to show more color Fossilized Clam Shell-THis was a piece that Randy got when we were down to visit, and he slabbed for us! I love this, pretty colors in the matrix! 2 amethysts from the estate sale: Backlit Wonderstone, Ralph's rejects See the "F" Then these are for bottle stoppers, will have to post after they dry on the stopper. Gary Green-really like this material-for my boss, his name is Gary! Corpolite Enjoy! Amber

OOoooooo! I like! The opal looks like it must have a lot of little fire-points in it. The clam shell is, I think very art-deco looking (I like art-deco) - reminds me of some decorative items we used to have in the house when I was growing up.
The amethyst ..... oh, the amethyst! Purple is my favorite color!

The opal is cool, the amethyst is beautiful, and I love the fossilized clam shell. That is so unique! Great work Amber!

Great job Amber. You are right about opal being hard to take a picture of.

WTG Amber! Nothing to fear but fear itself. You are way beyond being scared at cabbing any material anymore.....you are doing Fantastic! I like that clamshell stuff...very unique and unusual. You did great on the Opal and that Gary Green has to be my top pick for this bunch. Steve

Great bunch, Amber! Yes, I can see pin fire going off in the opal. Love the clam shell and the coprolite. Tony

Amber, that's another great batch of cabs! That F has to be from "Fantastic batch!" - or did you have something else in mind?
The opal, yhe clam shell and the coprolite are my favorites, but hard to pick from the others.

I especially like the Gary Green and the coprolite. That opal is really hard to work, I tried one and pretty much ruined it attempting to "re-stabilize" it.

Thanks guys, yeah the opal is a bugger, I sealed it with superglue then more soft softs, so it was a battle of sealing and grinding, and hoping to not lose the fire that it does have. I got a whole jar of smaller opals at the estate sale this summer, for $17!!!! Now that I have done one, I am hoping there will be some nice pieces in there to work! The clam shell is a fav, I found a chunk the size of Texas when we were with Randy in VA, he bought it and slabbed a bunch for me and Fran! This particular one is more peach which I really like as opposed to the brown that you usally see! Thanks Randy!

Great Job!!!
A couple more and you'll be hooked for good!!! ;D
If the post office would stop keeping the pieces I send to you for themselves ( :nono: ), you would of had some hard/potchless pieces to try. Nothing much coming out of Honduras these days (last year or so) with all their troubles right now.
Keep up the great work.
