Well, now that our rainy season has set in, we got lucky this last Thursday, and it did not rain almost all day. With this luck, four of us went off to the Mount Saint Helens area to dig crystals, and carnelian. The crystal digging was pretty good, if a wee bit muddy. The carnelian dig on the other hand was dig five minutes, then bail the water out of the hole for ten minutes. For all that bailing, the material I dug was not that great, but I had to take it home, and pressure wash the muddy clay off to see what I actually had. I will post photographs of the crystals after they are cleaned later. Woody Here are some photographs of the carnelian After being rained on all night The other side! After the pressure wash Unwashed crystal clusters A close up, still unwashed

That carnelian looks promising. A lot of work considering you don't know if you'll have anything worth keeping in the end. But that's part of the fun, I suppose. Great stuff.

Good haul for a day's work. Never know when a piece of carnelian turns into a nice specimen. Arne

Woody: I think you understated the the effort required to move all that water. ;D Here is a picture of mossyrockhound getting ready to bail. It looks like scuba gear would have been appropriate. Also one of the amount of water. I haven't gotten my cyrstals cleaned yet, but when I do I'll post some pictures. chasfire

You guys are Die-Hards! It's amazing what a little pressure washing will do. Some of those Carnelians look like they have some nice bandings. Looking forward to seeing the crystals all cleaned up. Go get em' Guys! Steve

Just for everybody's information, we are NOT digging in a creek. That place is like the Dismal Swamp! The water level is right at the surface of the ground, and the only way you can get the water to move is to bail it into somebody else's dig hole - LOL!. Also, fyi, most of the stuff we got out of here was crystal with a little rind of carnelian.
