Thanks gang. Despite the cool/cold windy weather I had an awesome trip! WWR is one of the few places I've found where it's sooooooo easy to just 'be'. At the end of the last collecting trip I stood on the top of the hill, closed my eyes, spread my arms and just let the breeze blow through me. It's forever in my soul now. ;D ;D ;D Hope that doesn't sound corny. The place really got to me. Later, jeri

Heard a rumor that Jan plans to disallow tent camping at The Ranch. Only 11 are allowed in the combined cabins and the cabins must be booked in advance. Times they are a changin'... Two real nice agates we collected this year. Classic Red Plume Flower Garden Woodward Ranch remains one of my favorite places on Earth. :)S

Those are cool agates and that rainbow shot is great. Too bad Jan seems to be trying to drive people away from there.

Those are cool agates and that rainbow shot is great. Too bad Jan seems to be trying to drive people away from there. Signed up again to provide more details here.... The deal with the cabins is that the septic system can only handle about 11 people maximum. So... only 11 people are allowed at any one time to stay in the cabins. Those folks can pitch tents or stay in the cabins but only 11 are allowed to stay at the cabin site. Individual campers were banned at the cabin site after some teenagers who were camping at the creek got out of control and caused some problems... (the Sherrif had to be called out). Camping is still available at the Ranch House camp sites.... Hope that helps to clarify.... Jan is not trying to drive anyone away... she is trying to make a living and provide a safe experience for us rock hounds. I'd also like to report that WWR is NOT picked clean. Anyone who's been there recently can tell you this. I find plenty of good material both large and small every time I go. You just have to know where to look!

Hi, Dan! ;D
Last I heard she was considering banning tent camping entirely...including the sites at The Ranch House. Not to worry. There's always the option to camp at Stillwell and collect at Woodward...
Oh, and Woodward is DEFINITELY NOT picked clean.
:PS

I'm gonna call Jan to find out for sure... no tenting at all? That don't sound like a good idea to me...

It was my first time there and I found plenty! ;D Lots of rough to feed my tumbler... Lots more to slice open on my WF... And quite a bit that's too big for the WF! These are my favorites... :help: If any of these have specific names, please let me know. 1. 2. Carnelian? 3. 4. Love the 'rainbow'... It goes all the way through too. 5. 6. Whopper! 7. 8. My favorite big chunk! 9. Cool 3-D effect. 10. 11. Love the chalcedony on the left and crystals on the right! 12. Favorite biscuit! 13. Citrine! Trey said I should have it faceted. I won't bore you with pics of the pretty pieces of tumble rough. There are 65 pics here>>> public.fotki.com/jero/rth/wwr-2010-rocks/Later, jeri

Yea... Jeri did great! She's the only person I know that's found Citrine there. I had heard it was there but never knew anybody that actually found some.

Thanks Jo! I'd never been to a place where soooo many purty rocks were just lying there for the pickin'. I guess all newbies pickup everything at first, I did. By Wed. or Thurs. though I noticed I was getting picky. LOL LOL Leave it to a newbie to find the elusive. ;D Um, Dan, if you can remember where we were when I first showed you the Citrine, maybe we can find more next year. Later, jeri

Hi Jeri,
5, 6, and 9 (and maybe 7) are Flower Garden Agate. It's beautiful when cut---bright yellow, orange, and red.
