I'm young and new at this so here goes. I'm 18 and from California. I just started my journey into this rock tumbling world. I dont even have a real tumbler, (christmas present?), i'm using one of those toy red ones. Its from the 80's too. Was my stepdads and he never used it. So far I've tumbled one set of rough rocks, glass to make sea glass, and right now i got a small bone carving i did in with some sand and water. Thats mainly how i got into this stuff. I'm a bone carving and VERY!!!! new at that. I was wanting to do an inlet and released i had nothing to put into the bone. I saw people's work with stones into it. I thought buying a tumbled stone is the east way out, and for my art to really be mine, i have to make every step. So now im toying around with rocking tumbling. I like it. I'm mainly going to be using it to advance my bone art or occasionally make sea glass or try something new. So thats me and bone carver who felll into tumbling. I know bone carving sounds odd. My family doesnt get it lol. Anyways I'm new and here. And i'm sure ill have alot of questions. If anyone wants to help me out and i'm always here to have fun. So thats me.

Hi Kevin, welcome!!!
Bone carving doesnt sound odd at all. Besides my love of all thing rocks, I collect bones! I have them everywhere......in boxes, in trunks.....sitting on tables, out in the shed. I even drag home carcasses and let them decompose in a "bone box" that I have for that specific purpose. Add to that the elk skeletons under the leaf pile etc. LOL

Welcome to the board! Just remember that when you start, it takes trial and error until you figure out what works for you. Now, you may end up needing a better tumbler or keep a supply of bands to keep you rolling. I am looking forward to your results and we have some great people here to help you when you need it. Fran
