I know a young rockhound in Vancouver, BC that is looking to go rockhounding with Mom. I know there is beatiful material avaialble, but am on the wrong ocean to offer much advice.
Does anyone have some suggetions where a young collector and a novice Mother would start? The locations should be within a 1hr to 2 hr radius of Vancouver, and should beeasily accessible for a young collector (ie. no repelling, overnight treks, scuba diving, etc.)
Thanks if you have some ideas and can help.
Darryl.

The Mindat site is handy if you want a picture of a rock and its physical properties. As far as locations go, it will tell you that Apache Tears are found in Arizona, but that't not much of a start to go and find one.
Thanks, but I'm still looking.

Darryl: There is a two volume BC rockhounding guide that is very good, and does have excellant maps, and directions. Vol 1 is Vancouver Island, and Vol 2 is the mainland. Have your mum pick up a copy, then the two of them can go over it, and pick the ites that both interest them, and are suitable for newcomers. If your mum picks up a copy form a rockshop, the staff, will probably help them pick some good locations. I only know a few sites on Vancouver Island, and that would mean a ferry ride with car, for most of them, although most of the beaches between Victoria, and Sydney have agate. Woody
