I use a 12 lb. barrel tumbler and a 40 lb. barrel.
My old pre-polish was called SISA and it seems to not be available any more.
I will need to be getting more pre-polish soon and am wondering what kind is commonly used? and also how much should be use to get a good pre-polish and polish in a 12 lb. barrel and the 40 lb. barrel?
Any suggestions?

Not sure about your large tumblers but I use Aluminium Oxide 1000F for pre-polish in my 3 lbs. Many use Silicon Carbide 500.
I then use Aluminium Oxide polish, simply because it is the most affordable compared to some of the other oxides.

I've had good results using Tripoli after the 500 SC.

I've been using Lusterite II between the graded 600 SiC grit and the final polish, which will be AO polish, Super Cerium, Tin Oxide, Chrome Oxide, or M-5 polish, depending on the types of stones I'm polishing.

Like Mike, I use Tripoli after 500F. It does a good job and it's inexpensive. Another prepolish that I've heard of around the RTH is 1000grit SiC. Steve
