First I have to thank rockmanken for posting all the pictures of His knife's. that inspired me to try one. Also have to thank mynewhobby for the leather. I bought the knife blank and made the handles from some material I found in a horizontal layer in some white dirt. Sorry I don't know what it is. I made the knife for my grandson's Birthday the first of December. I polished another piece of material and used the back as a birthday card. Thanks for looking Mike

Beautiful work! I hope your grandson is old enough to fully appreciate such a fantastic gift but if he's not yet he will surely do it later. Send him my best Birthday wishes and tell him his Birthday is also our National Day Adrian

That's a great looking knife. It makes it even better that you found the material yourself, and made the leather sheath and a stone-backed birthday card. I'm sure your grandson will keep them for decades. Garry

Nice job. Great choice of stone for the scales and card. Goes well with the brass bolsters. Ken

Thank You everyone for the kind words. My grandson will be 17 and it is his first knife so hope He like's it. Hulagrub I bought the knife blank from these people, fast service and quality product. www.premiumknifesupply.com/Categories.bok?category=Premium+BladesKen Yes it does but it's my bad picture taking that makes the bolsters look like brass, they are silver. Thanks Mike! Didn't really want to try my first knife with a high dollar unit, nor anything cheapo. Have a hard time thinking about taking a Buck or other great knife apart.

Thanks Ken I Will have a look at them hulagrub I had the same problem not wanting take a good knife apart. When I bought the $15.00 blank above I was afraid it would be a piece of junk. But it turned out to be good quality. I just ordered 3 more like the one above and a couple fixed blades. Here is a good Tutorial on redoing a pocket knife. www.allaboutpocketknives.com/tutorials/art_in_stone/index.phpafter I glued the scales on the knife and was ready to finish grinding and polishing them. I was afraid I would hit the bolster with the grinding wheel and put a big scratch in them. So I put a layer of black electrical tap on them. worked great, I could feel the difference when I hit the tape. Good luck Mike

Fantastic knife, sheath, and card Mike! I bet he'll treasure it for years to come. It'll be a family heirloom.
