And, if so, how? My wife, as well as a couple of other people have suggested I mark the back of my stones with my initials, or a logo, or whatever. Sooo, I am wondering what would work? I tried a small pointed diamond burr in my Dremel, it works, but, is there a better way? I am not exactly good at doing carving related stuff, my hand just goes every where, lol! All I want to do is just make a small id mark, kinda like an artist does on a canvas. Any ideas?
Thanks; Mike

An sharpened aluminum pencil might work for that.

Could probably make a template and sand blast your logo/initials onto your rock. That would give you fast and repeatable results.
Never seen anyone do it but it should be doable.

They also make Diamond pencils. Unsure where you can find them, but local flintknappers use them all the time to sign their work. In fact in my area it's almost illegal if you don't sign them. Check out flintknapping supply outfits. Some guys I know can sign their names so small you have to use a 10X Loupe and search the piece.

Rockhound, thanks for the idea! I did not even know such a thing existed. After some looking and pricing and thinking, I believe a diamond scribe will work very well.

Check out Mc-Master Carr for Diamond scribes. They come with several different angles on the Diamond points. I believe you have a choice of 3 different angles. They have a collet type pen they fit into and a soft plastic cap to protect the tip from damage. The wife uses them to do her scrimshaw work. They will work on glass, rock or hardened tool steel . I believe the cost for the pen and tip will be under $15.00 .

All these ideas are wonderful. The only think marking my stones presently is the darn-blasted male cat from next door!
