Howdy folks, Well, I finally got my saw oil and actually found all the parts to my old 10" slab saw. Of course, everything was disassembled so I almost had to rebuild the whole thing. You have to really take this one apart to install a new blade. Heck, I even found a blade still new and in the box although it is a MK Criterian which I don't much like for hard materials. Also I seem to have a problem with the cut off switch and darn it, it's been so long since I used this rig, I can't remember how the darn thing adjusts. Anyway, I'm cutting some travertine to break the blade in and figure out the quirks. Should have some slab pics real soon. Here's the old timer just hacking away at a rock:........Mel ![](http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b377/sabre52/DSCN4735.jpg)

Allright!! Blade singing along is a happy sound. Slabs dropping always make me happy. The anticipation of picking up a slab and discovering what secrets were hidden away...all cool.
Can't belive you have the door open, it wasn't that warm today.

Sweet shop Mel! Congratulations on getting the old saw running again. The more I cut on the old WF the more I realize I need a bigger saw! LOL

Daniel: I just gave up and had Covington send me a five gallon pail of rockhound oil. I looked all over, even Walmart and the feed stores. Found the livestock mineral oil was more expensive ($22 per gallon)and the Walmart stuff, heck it was hard to tell if the viscosity was right, there was not a lot on the shelves and it was about the same price as the Covington stuff.
Nate and fran: Man, I love my new shop. It even has a closeable ( so I can heat or cool it) apartment (with a full bathroom) inside the shop that I converted to my main rockshop. Never dreamed I'd find a place with this much room. It was one of the main reasons I bought this property *S*....Mel

Mel Is Your saw a 10" Becon Star saw. If it is could You please tell me what size pulleys You have. I just bought one and it has a 3" on the motor and 1 7/8" on the saw arbor. that makes the saw 2760rpm. seems kind of fast to me. Diamond pacific recomends 950-2200rpm. I also just had a rock come loose and was not there watching it. Burned up the main motor and wiped out a good blade. (shame on me). Luckly I have a motor that will work and the feed still works. But I have to buy a new driven pulley so i want to slow it down if I need to. My blade was a old Felker Golden Rimrock notch rim .052. It sure cut good til I messed it up. Thanks Mike

Mike: I'll check for you tomorrow. It's freaking cold out there right now *L*. I'm pretty sure the pulley on the motor is a triple size in 2" 3" and 4" and the one on the arbor is a 3". I'm running my blade fast using the middle pulley. If I get a better continuous rim blade, I'll get a longer belt and run the blade even faster as the continuous rim blades do good run faster than notched....Mel

Mike: I checked and my saw is an ancient Beacon Star and the pulley measurements are as I stated above with my belt going from 3" on the motor to 3" on the arbor shaft......Mel

Congrats Mel! I'm eager to see more slabs from your collection. Shipping must be cheaper to you than it is to me; the farm mineral oils comes out cheaper for me once shipping is included. ($16 vs. $24 per gallon) Chuck P.S. I just found this company and product, located in Texas. Shipping might be cheaper for you: www.steoil.com/catalog.asp?productgroup=70t

Thanks for the info Chuck. Covington rockhound oil is about $79 per five gallon bucket but no sales tax and Texas has high sales tax so the two products are most likely very close in delivered cost. Also, I've used rockhound oil for years and it's not stinky and cools and lubricates well .....Mel

I once again recommend the STE-70. I love it. ... and as Chuck says, they are in Texas.

Man, That open door sure looks inviting ! I haven't quite reached my garage door as yet, the snow is about halfway between my waist and armpits on that end of the drive ! On the other end the snow was halfway up the grill on the wife's Blazer. A friend of mine sent me a picture of his drive. His white pickup has about 4 inches of snow stuck on the side of it from the wind blowing against it. He ( tagged ) the side with the snow, it reads in black paint :
Global warming ?---------- Kiss my A$$
It's parked in a snow drift that is level with the top of the bed on one end and the hood on the other .
