Hi Everyone,
I am hoping someone on this forum might be able to help me, my 8 yr old daughter loves to collect tumbled rocks, my mother in law before she passed gave her a tumbled rock, it was amooth silver color. She lost it. I have been checking online to try and replace it but I do not know what I am looking for, I have looked at Hematite but it looks to dark, more black than a shiny silver.
An help would be appreciated, I would like to find a replacement and leave it in her stocking.
Thanks Debbie

Howdy, Hematite may look black or red when rough but will usually polish out to a silver metallic finish. Another material that is silver when polished is called psilomelane but it's much less common than hematite so I'd guess hematite is what you are looking for.....Mel

I'm with Mel on this... 99% chance it is hematite. I took at look at google images and I see what you mean, the tumbled hematite there tends to look quite dark, even black. In real life though, tumbled hematite is very shiny silver, far lighter than in the google pics. -Don

Almost all hematite beads and jewelry are man made in China. All of the "magnetic hematite" is. You should be able to locate some pretty easily.
