Hey all, anyone make bolo ties? or belt buckles, western style. I am wanting to put some stones on some so I am looking for parts as well as what glue to use. Any advise is appreciated. Ed

I have good luck with epoxy. It is best to abraid the stone and setting so the glue will hold better.
For bolos, I like the small sleeve that glues on the back. This lets the entire visible bolo be all stone.

Most of my bolo slides came from FireMountainGems, but lots of places sell them. I only made one buckle, and I would only buy that in person. I do not like large cheap metal frames that get a stone glued in the center. At a show in Oregon, one dealer had some buckle hardware that let me cut a largish square blank for the buckle, and glue a kind of hook on the back that would hook-into a belt hole. It also had a loop for the belt to slip through.
Never saw that kind online. You can find the usual kind at places like Kingsly North. They have the bolo slides too.
Cheers

Ed: www.eloxite.com is a good source for factory made, less expensive mountings and parts. I make a lot of bolos and buckles and usually buy from them. They have the screw on bezel type buckle mounts which I like too. My only complaint about all factory made bolo mounts is the crappy slide that is on the back which will not do a good job of both sliding and holding the cord. Eloxite does carry two types of spring loaded, "glue on the back of the stone" type of slides that better address this problem but of course, these types do no address the issue if you want a metal frame etc to accent your stone and make it look more western....Mel
