I've been told I have a new Lortone tumbler on it's way for my X-mas present. The problem is, I think it the unit only. Where is the best place to get grit/polish? Would I find it locally (MN) or is it a lot cheaper on-line? How much should a beginner get? (ounces / pounds ;D / tons )

Can't go wrong with The Rock Shed. Call him Monday, you'll probably have it Wednesday. Assuming it's a rotary tumbler, I'd get the Grit Pack for Rotary Rock Tumblers with Pellets $17.50 (1 lb. each of 60/90, 120/220, 500, polish, and plastic pellets) and another 5 lbs of 60/90 for $12.50 therockshed.com/therockshed.com/grit.html

I order mine from the rockshed as well, very very good service, and fast shipping! If ever in a pinch tho, not sure where u are, but there is a rock shop in Princeton...prices aren't too bad....good selection etc, but I would choose the rock shed for grit before driving a distance just for that. This store also sells the 46/90 grit, and another one, (CRS kickin here) it's like 20/ , very course stuff, but 3.00 per pound too. Marie

Yes, I found the Princeton shop too. It's only 30 miles for me but they are closed Sunday & Monday. www.lapidarysupplies.com/I was told about Hub Hobby Center in Little Canada in the cities so I might go there, the shipping cost for a small amount isn't attractive. BTW, has anyone used TXP for polishing?
