Here's a sensational piece of Wood from Utah! I couldn't believe it when I started polishing it. It has rings like regular wood but it also has similar patterns to Palm Wood. Try to not let the scratches distract from it's beauty. Any Help would be much appreciated. I looked in both of the Petrified Wood books to see if I could find anything similar...but Nothin! the end...really shows the palm wood characteristics. Thanks. Steve

Wow, that's an odd one! The bottom picture does look like palm but the arrangement of vascular bundles in the top pic appear more in bands than scattered evenly throughout like I'd expect in palm. I'd guess it is some sort of palm as the cross section does not look quite right for a fern but that's one for the experts. I'd post your pics to the fossilweb site , bassexpert.com/fossil/index.htm A bunch of experts will look at your pics and fight over their Id's and then you'll be thoroughly confused *L*.....Mel

Looks like a cross section of sage brush to me. I have no idea if that is what it is, but if you go out and cut a piece of sagebrush across the grain, it looks alot like that.
Cool find Steve!

Steve: Maybe you have to just type it into the address box and do it that way. Don't know why. I tried the link and it didn't work that way but it does work if you type it in above....Mel

One too many periods in the link, get rid of the last dot and it works.
I dont know if anyone has found any petrified sagebrush before, never heard of pet sage before, must be a new find!
Cool link, Tony
