I thing it is jasper and hematite of some kind. The blade is a gut hook skinner with blood holes and is 440 stainless steel forged in the USA. This one is sold.. Ken

Super cool knife Ken! I'm thinking maybe South African Autumn Jasper for the ID but the new Aussie Outback Jasper looks much like that too....Mel

Ken, do you have a collection for sale? Only looking for something in 440 or better, maybe Demasc...yeah, right...lol
Fixed blade, lock blade, folding, etc. Two knives I don't have in my collection that I've been looking for now for a while is a bowie and a toothpick. My favorites are, and not sure if you're familiar with these styles, doctor, lockback, and russlock. I also have quite a few fixed blades but they are pretty much older style bucks, etc. Anyway, let me know if you have a shop or pics or whatever. I'm always interested...don't always have the money, but always interested...lol...

Also, I have a knife, lock blade stainless Sheffield, it's my favorite and daily user. It was given to me by my step-father right before his death, so has much sentimental value. I've been thinking about dressing it up slightly. It's a 4" folded, 7" overall knife, has 5 slots in each side. I was wanting to put some kind of stone in those slots to dress it up. Slots are 1/8th inch wide, slot lengths are 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 7/16", and 5/16". So, pretty small, Picture is below. Would you be interested in taking something like this on? PM me if so along with an estimate... Or, if you have ideas on how to dress it up, fire away!

Sorry Robin, but I see no way to attach the stones and if you cut them to fit all the way through and attach inside, you will not be able to close the knife. Ken

Fantastic skinner Ken. On the subject of chromenut's folder, tiny cabs made the thickness of the scales then inserted and glued may work. They'd be tiny cabs for sure!

Wonder about covering the entire sides in stone? Just a thought, Ken's way more an expert on this than I am, heck I can barely figure out how to close the silly thing...lol
So Ken, do you ever break down knives to recreate them? Like if I sent you a fixed blade, could you strip off the sides and create one of your masterpieces? I don't really know anything about this stuff...newbie alert!

Yes Robin, I do it all the time to most of my knives. They start as factory knives. Only thing I steer clear of is finger grooves because of the tight radius. I have a 6" setup and anything smaller and I have to grind and sand and polish by hand. Not worth it, to me. Too many knives that have long, smooth curves. And, yes, I could cover the complete sides with scales. Run about $30, depending on the stone used. Laguna, like I put on the Buck 110 would run about $200.
