Look like the very big Idaho star garnets that I've dug up. They look like nice solid specimens but sometimes it's hard to tell if they have major fractures until they are cleaned with acid for a week or two. That mica matrix is really stuck into the garnet's rough surface.

I'll tell you the goofy reason I want to know too - different garnets have different compositions, and I like to keep track of what elements are in the stones I have. I take rock-nerdiness to a whole new level...

Really? No one else wants to take a shot? I've done some extensive searching on the web and only found a few scientific papers that don't really nail anything down for me - probably because I don't understand them...

Toad - These are ugly garnets LOL. The only good thing about them is the natural crystal shape. I have a couple of these for sale in my shop. They are larger in size, however they are no good for cutting... what you see on the outside is the same on the inside.
I notice the ebay seller you posted is in Salem, Oregon. I'll bet you they got theirs from Richardson's Ranch. I know John brought back gunny sacks of these from Quartzite a few years ago. Same place I got mine a couple years ago.
Afraid I don't know what specific type of Garnet they are just big and ugly looking with a great natural crystal habit ;D
