Finally got the equipment (Lortone 33b) for X-mas, the family all chipped in and even used 2 day shipping but they didn't ship in two days (2 days after X-mas). Ordered grit and pellets when I found out they ordered only the tumbler and it arrived today. Had a friend help sort the rocks, so that's taken care of. Now comes the hard part, a 7 day wait.

Hopefully, the first of many waits measured by 7 sunrises. Buy yourself a new toothbrush and save the old one for the 7th day. You'll need it to clean your 33b lid and barrel. Cleanliness is next to shininess. Good luck!

Now that's a worthwhile gift if I ever saw one. Congrats! I spend the wait time preparing for my next load.

No need to buy the toothbrush. I went toothless about 3 years ago and still have the old toothbrush. My wife keeps telling me to make an appointment for dentures but I can chew steaks as is. Maybe after I get a load of rocks.

For a 1st barrel, I would open after 3-4 days and try to see if slurry has started. IF you still have clear water with grit falling to the bottom, then you have too much water and/or not enough small rocks and the 7 days will neven end.
Hopefully you will see a light grey slightly frothy thicker-than-water (if only slightly) slurry. When you pinch some between your fingers and rub, you should get some grit. Close it up and go for a few more days. Repeat 6 to 16 times until you have a batch ready for medium.
Good luck!

Opened it up and I have gray 'beer head' on it, so I take it all is well. I'll look again on Sat. and see if it needs another tumbler at 60/90 or if we're ready for stage 2.

:)Fantastic, best of luck with some great polished stones to come, I am sure. I just added two extra barrels to my stock, Christmas present, so I marked each one, Coarse, Fine and Polish. That way I won't get the grit mixed. The worse part is the wait, maybe I should more tumblers, lol. ;)That is how the bug bites. Happy New Year. Ed

Paitience, Patience, is the name of the rock polishing game
You will be waiting longer than 7 days as the polishing process takes shape
Paitience and surgicaly clean are the two key elements in getting good results
Look forward to your posts in future
have a good day
