Howdy folks, Well, for today I pulled out a nice looking nodule of Laguna Lace. It was uncut and a chip in one corner looked good. Nice bubbly top which can be a good indication of nice patterns. Anyway, I cut into it and it was a huge disappointment, as a lot of the new lace shipped out of Mexico is. As you can see from the first two slabs, the nice pattern was only an exterior feature and not great for cabbing any larger stones. The dark stuff is hematite with a layer of clear quartz crystal above it and below the nice lace. Overall, pretty much an expensive dud. So, hoping to get something from the piece, I blocked it out and moved it in the vice for cuts parallel to the pattern. First one was pretty nice and, if I cut down through the exterior bubbles, I should get about three nice colorful cabs from this piece. Got one more 1/4 inch slab before the pattern totally disappeared: Oh well, at least I salvaged a little from the hunk.....Mel

Well it still looks good Mel. Maybe not a textbook example, but there's plenty of potential there. You finished it up really good.

That first cut after you turned it is awesome. The second slice is nearly awesome. Good idea to turn it.
