I has this piece of rhyolite that I had set aside a few years back to make a lapidary tile out of. Recently I have been marking just about every slab I touch for bolo cuts, this one included. I even began impregnation with Hot Stuff, and thought to finish these on a wheel instead of a tumbler ... .... but this morning, I am not convinced this is the right track. They are nice bolos, the impregnation may help get a better shine, ... but the overall riverbank scene is sad to lose. I think I will face sand this to remove the sharpie lines and go back to my plans to make a tile. ... at any rate it is once again set aside and will not be cut anytime soon. I masked out the black lines with PhotoShop, but if sanded the effect would be more complete. maybe this is a rock better uncut.

I agree. The scene is more complete left as is.

How many slabs have a scene like that? Yep, leave it intact.

Definitely better uncut.
I love the variety of the growths across the 'horizon'.
It loses too much in the fragmented form.

Good gracioius, what a slab! If it were mine, I'd figure out a way to mount it and frame it as a wall hanging! Wow!

Have you ever trid making mosaics? That slab would make a wonderfull accent tile or could be the focal point of a smaller mosaic. IDK the scale on that peice, but I invision it in a frame with an inch or so of frame on each side that is made to look like a river scene, to point out the natural patterning on the slab to those who dont notice it themselfs. very nice piece I wish I could have.

Dan,
You might try soaking the slab in alcohol or spraying with hair spray to remove the sharpie before you sand. That should save some of then stone.

I would say leave that one the way it is.
