Dang I love having a new blade! Here's just a shot of a few I cut today. Some KILLER OLD-TIME collected Wood from Utah Parcelas Agate. (I think) I've never glued my nodules on blocks before but this is the way to do it. I was able to get 3 nice slabs out of this half nodule because of doing it the right way. Steve

Dang Steve, I think that wood is unreal! So is the agate!
What kind of glue did you use and did you have to prep the side you glued?

Steve, I use gorilla glue. I didn't prep anything...just a couple globs on the wood and stuck the nodule in it. I let it dry overnight without any clamping...and it held through the cutting. Gorilla Glue is AMAZING stuff! Steve

Wow Steve, they're beautiful. The wood looks like a bird wing to me.

Wow Steve, both those specimens are awesome! What do you use to release the agate nodule from the wood block and clean off the glue? The colors and irregularity of the nodule do look like Parcelas but I've always had trouble telling those from a good Laguna in gray/purple, gray/ white, or gray/blue tones. Lagunas sometimes have those "black widow" type inclusions but without those, I can't tell them apart.....Mel

Thanks Mel. I just assumed Parcelas just cuz I've seen them look like this. I am gonna call my buddy and ask him what he does to release the glue. He told me to use Gorilla Glue and it does work. I think he may have told me he runs them over hotttt water but I will check with him and post it. I cut another nodule earlier and I cut it right to the edge of the wood leaving just a tiny bit of nodule left. I could probably get one more slice off of this one...but I think this one should be left as a speciman. No fractures and a full pattern. Steve

Steve, I checked the gorilla glue website, and they say to use standard paint thinner to remove excess glue, but that's when still wet. Maybe soaking it in thinner will loosen it from the nodule?

Thanks Nate. I'll try that even though it's been dry for a little while. Steve

Yeah, I've got a whole bin of halves and endcuts too hard to grip in the vice. I sometimes use a slab grabber but that's not all that reliable. I'll have to try your method. it would sure yield some good slabs from leftovers.....Mel
