I started my first batch last Friday the 1st. I checked on them last night for the first time and all seems going along nicely. I used some of the stones we got in NC, but most of them were in the bag that came with the tumbler. The barrel had a goo dhead of foam and the liquid was very sludgy, but not to think. I closed it up and set it to going again thinking I would check it again on Sunday. That would give it 10 days of solid tumbling. The edges seemed to be smoothing out last night, but there was a section of a geode that was in the bag that still had about 25% of the matrix on the outside of it. It is a nicely shaped piece and will wire wrap nicely I think. No large crystals inside, but a nice layer of amethyst very small crystals which had rounded in the 5 days and a beautiful white layer in between. There is also several stones that looks like marisopite, but is not green. It has amethyst running through is and I think will be very pretty when is is done. I definitely need to get a good book for identifying stones.
Mu question this time is - There are two or three stones in the batch that are kind of evergreen tree shaped and I was wondering if these could be cut top to bottom with my diamond band saw so there is natural form on the front, but a flat back so I can wrap them. They are both amethyst. I was thinking after stage 1 would be a good time to do this before it goes to the next . One has a green element mixed in on one side and the other is all purple with shaded bands of color. and this would give me two different stones to use.
Comments and advice please.
Thank you
Deb
