Ok fairly new here and have only completed 3 batches all the way thru. First two were week long polishes. The third batch I left in for a couple of days longer. They seemed to have a little more shine. Which brings me to my question. Do the rocks tend to get shiner the longer you leave them in the polish run? And if so does there seem to be a time where they just won't get any shiner?

I suppose there is a limit to anything but I've never heard anyone say "that's just too polished".

Yeah, I'm with John. Longer in the polish, better shine you get. I generally run twice as long as recommended, 7 days in the vibe or 15+days in the rotary....Mel

although there are some rocks that will never acquire a shine no matter how long you leave them in polish, i have found that the longer you roll'em in polish, the better shine you are going to achieve. i've been known to leave that polish barrel turning for a month or so. even longer (mainly due to laziness!).

Thanks I have a batch polishing now and my other three barrels are doing course so I might just leave this one go until I need it again. Might as well have something in it rather than have it on there empty. Just did not know if it was one of those things that after a time you really don't get any better results or not. Sounds like you do. Thanks again.

I have found that 3 weeks is best for me. Once in a while I will open a barrel early and think the polish looks fine until I add them to rocks that went the full 3 weeks. There is a much better polish on the three weeks batch.
I have a batch that will be done with the 3 weeks in a couple days. You now have me thinking that I should let them go until I need the barrel to see how much better they get.

24 hours in a Lot-O-Tumbler, after a 24 hour pre-polish run.

If all your rocks are close to the same size the longer if fine. If you have some larger stones in with smaller stones some times the edges and corners get rough, check more with uneven loads. Debby and Tom
