I went out to buy a slice of jade from the guy I buy most my rock stuff from. He has tons of nice rocks and at a fair price. On the work bench was a dusty box of preformed cabs that he recently picked up at an estate sale that he hadn't had time to sort. He asked if I wanted to buy it. I said sure, how much? He said is $60 ok? I said sounds great! Then we started digging into that box, they all looked good to me. He said, "hmmm, you just got a very good deal". He pointed out a few treasures hidden in the dust including Deschutes, Picture, Owyhee, Biggs, Tiger Eye and Montana's. I sorted it somewhat for you to see. I have no idea what 3/4's of this stuff is so feel free to school me if you know. Box of stuff Montana Agates Lace Agates Other Agates Redish jaspers White and other jaspers Cool stuff including Owyhee, Biggs, Deschutes, tiger eye, labradorite and ?? Oh Yes, I did get my jade too :-). Forgot to put in the pet wood pic!

Man, you hit the jackpot with this offer, a lot of beauties there. That brown pet wood in the bottom center of the "reddish jaspers" picture caught my eye. The purple one in the "laces" is also striking.
Nice and solid jade slab, too.

Very nice collection, and you got it for a very good price. To add some value to the Montana preforms, rework them around the fractures. Looks like somebody slabbed the agate for the highest yield. It is best to cut through the fractures, or breat the agate on the fracture before slabbing. All in all, you bought a treasure chest. Woody

Thanks all, I didn't count but there are well over 200. It doesn't really show but most are bigger than a 1.5 inches round and 1/3 inch thick so they should keep me busy for a while. Thanks for pointing out that pet wood Adrian as it made me realize that I forgot to put in the pet wood pile! I'll attach that pic. too, although now it might be crossing the line to showing off.
Thanks Woody for the idea to rework the Montana preforms to remove the fractures. I've picked up Montana agates from the Yellowstone (never very big or this quality) so I know a little these. There are a couple that are almost pure black, you can only tell they are Montana with a back light to see the inside pattern. I've never seen black spots that large, must have been a hell of a big agate to produce such a big spot.
Thanks also for ID'ing the chrysocolla, although I don't know which one it is! Please feel free to let me know if you know what some are. Thanks again Tim

Everytime I see all these beauties I start drooling. I have never drooled before in my life:) On the next to the last picture on the bottom left that one looks like chrysocolla (blushish greenish) to me. But I would like to hear what others say. And you know the whitish beige one in middle with round spots is coral. I think you got a piece of dino bone in with the one called other agates. Its the orange red one, kinda in middle to the left. It may be a jasper instead. When you have time lay out a picture of the ones you want identified and we will help you:)

I do not see a bad preform in the batch! You can reshape those Montana's and they will be beautiful! Looks like you really got a great deal and I love the amethyst lace you have there! Fran
