Went to the show again today to see if anyone out out anything new and to pick up more of the Chinese carnelian which I really liked once I got home and washed it up. A Mexicanguy who showed up with a truckload of really crappy crazy lace was the only real new guy. Most the lace was so bad it had zero lace and he wanted $1 per round for the total junk and $4 for the semi-crap stuff. Man they must be scrounging the tailings piles now days. Anyway, pics of a few more slabs I got and the carnelian. More Rio Grande Agate: Carnelian from China. Not heated treated according the guy who actually brought it over. Man, this is intense red stuff! Picture in transmitted sunlight s to show you just how red.

Hey Mel, thanks for the 4-part installment! These are beauts too, and commenting on #3, that dino bone is super! Looking forward to the finished product.

I'm guessing the Texas rock show dealers work all of the shows in the state. I've bought from the guy you got the carnelian from -- I passed it over last Nov., but may have to get some when the Clear Lake show comes to town (next couple months, I think). I did buy some green moss agate from him. He had some amazing big slabs of it, but I bought about 8 pounds of chunks.
Looks like you had a great show experience. Looking forward to those cabs.

Matt: Yep that's the guy all right. he did have some nice Indian Moss and Bloodstone/fancy jasper both. I slabbed some of the carnelian yesterday and if you're looking for cabs, I'd take a pass on it. I cut the two largest nodules and both were highly fractured, so much so that the second nodule exploded in the saw. Pretty stuff but I suspect it was heat treated to enhance the color and that's what caused the fractures. I will get a few nice small cabs from what I cut yesterday but I think the Pacific Northwest material is nicer for cabbing.....Mel
