Okay - I just got some of the magnetic nova discs you can attach to your pixie, genie, etc. (I've got the pixie.) Finally I've been able to work on some of the pieces I've been cutting over the past year. It speeds up the process, but I'm still working on getting a great final shine on some pieces. Here's some of the work: Small Hauser T-egg (self collected): Two nodules from the Deming area (purchased from old collections): A piece of plume picked up near Afton Canyon (self collected): A Mexican nodule I bought from a show and cut (working of final shine) And two pieces Mel left behind in his back yard....I cut them and them had to wonder if this was the stuff he left behind, what did the wonders he chose to haul to Texas look like... Owlshead Mountains: Mexican Nodule: And finally a pile of jasper I picked up in the desert outside Barstow a couple weeks ago. Took an hour of walking to fill the bag. Included because I didn't want to start another thread:

Beautiful specimens Lowell and it looks like you got a pretty fine shine too. I'm glad to see you're getting some use out of the stuff I left behind. That Owlhead sagenite is pretty cool huh? Say is that jasper from the place I told you about where Sher and I were collecting before the move? Looks real similar.....Mel

Actually, it's near Hector hills. I was at Diamond Pacific having the bearings replaced on my Pixie and my pump rebuilt by the owner Bill (his two normal employees for this task were out sick). - Bill, by the way, is a great guy - and for two hours work I wasn't charged a cent - not for parts or labor - anyway, all these sidenotes aside - Bill and I have a mutual friend who he was going rockhunting with the following Saturday. This friend called him that morning to let Bill know I was coming in - so Bill had a nearby 'unknown' spot ready for me once the work was done. It's along that same corridor of 40. The material is not as much picked over as in areas listed in all the books. It's fistsized or smaller and really sandblown. I would of gone down to your site but my time ended at Diamond Pacific around noon and I had to be back in Ventura at 6:00. So, I had need of a nearer site. I was going to go into Mule Canyon for the yellow jasper there. I'm finishing up a batch in my tumblers now (can you believe I haven't finished a batch of polished stones since August. I ought to be shot or have my Rockhound Membership Badge taken away.) I'll be posting within the week. Also in that batch is N Cady Plume that I really like and some of that Hauser layered material I sent you - I'm I'm loving the patterns it's giving me. I'm also tumbling apache tears for the first time. I'm on 120/220 right now in a slower machine. Advice?
Time to go and face the 6th graders.
Lowell
