Thats a good question there. Thats something I haven't encountered in my glass tumbles. However, that may be because I did mine in the vibe for the 500,1000,and polish, where the gas could escape. I open my rotaries almost daily to degas them in the coarse and 120 stage.Somebody out there should have an answer for you.

Think of this..... if you eat crackers, everything is fine.....but as soon as you eat something mooshy, you feel like you're gonna explode. This has absolutely nothing to do with rocks so I honestly have no idea where I'm going with this. Y'all have a great Sunday!

I would say that glass has more gas then anything I've ever done. I'm no chemist but I would think it has something to do with how and what it's made of. The only thing I can think of is that you didn't get down to the part of the glass that causes gas until you ground away the outer part? What type of glass are you tumbling? I did some broken antique bottles a long time ago and man oh man was that ever gassy! Now that I'm thinking about it that old glass had a lot of air bubbles in it and maybe they're not really air but some sort of gas that's caused while actually making the glass??? I would suspect that even modern day glass has some "pockets" in it ever how minute?? dunno,,,,just guessing??? connrock
